Best Natural Deodorant for Women

As of August 2020

THE JOAT'S Advice

The 90-day average price as of 8/31/2020 on Amazon is $26.49, according to data from Keepa. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.

We have seen it priced as high as $30. Anything in the $20-25 range is a really solid deal. Credo tends to run 20% off deals every so often but free shipping is only above $50. Check their website first before deciding to buy from Amazon. Each container last for months so don’t get too dismayed by the sticker price versus classic stick deodorants. It’s worth it.

what we like

  • Completely natural deodorant
  • Charcoal and magnesium formula results in a deodorant that actually lasts all day
  • The scent is unisex and intoxicating. It’s like a spa treatment everyday
  • Only need to use a small dab (see picture) on each armpit each day
  • Therefore, one container can last for 1-3 months
  • I have extremely sensitive armpits and get irritated easily by other brands. No such problems here
  • Smooth creamy texture which stays that way
  • Does not stain your clothes

keep in mind

  • Applying deodorant by your finger takes a few days to get used to
  • Expensive but well #worth it for something you use #everyday and lasts for months. Especially in a category with so many options and so few truly effective natural solutions

review

If, like us, you’ve been on an exhaustive, multi-year search trying to find an effective natural deodorant, you’ve come to the right place.

While none of us are doctors/scientists, through everything we have read in recent years, there are a few things we are starting to universally believe more and more when it comes to deodorants:

  1. Antiperspirants don’t seem like a healthy long-term option
  2. Aluminum, which is commonly found in antiperspirants to suppress your sweat ducts, seems like it could have negative long-term side effects (at best)
  3. Most of the popular regular deodorants, especially new natural deodorants, suck when it comes to fighting odor from morning to night

We have spent years searching for one that properly balances all 3. After trying out no less than 20 different products we finally came across two that really did it for us (Routine and LIttle Seed Farm). Coincidentally, both required us to completely rethink the way we apply our deodorant. After spending our whole lives using the plastic sticks in the bottle, our two favorites actually require manually spreading it on your skin with your fingers. It’s definitely a bit strange the first few times you do it, but soon you’ll realize how much more effective and efficient it is.

Superstar by Routine is the best we have ever used. The ingredients are natural, the scent is incredible and it lasts all day. You only need to use a small dab of it everyday for each armpit. The texture is soft and easily spreads. It is well worth the extra expense especially since you use it everyday and each container can last as long as 1-3 months.

The reality is that if a scent is neutral enough, there should be no difference in terms of what is the best deodorant for men vs. women. That is why Routine is our clear choice for both.

Sizing Tips & FAQs

Is the scent overly feminine smelling?

Not at all. Charcoal is a very neutral smell which both men and women can use.

How much do you need to apply?

Honestly, not much at all. Just put a dab on your finger and rub it into your armpit. Use just enough to cover the whole armpit but nothing more.

How long does it last?

If you use the right amount, each container can last up to 1-3 months

I keep seeing ads for Native Natural Deodorant. How does Routine compare to Native?

I used Native unscented for over a year before switching to Routine and I have not looked back. Native is your more traditional deodorant in a plastic stick. Their ingredients are natural and their products are decent, but it came up short as it just didn’t last all day.

How are Routine’s other scents?

Superstar is definitely the best and most neutral of the 4 offered. Moon Sisters is solid but not as good as Superstar.

Is there anything similar but cheaper? I just can’t stomach paying $30 for deodorant.

We hear you. I was the same initially but being a cream deodorant means this thing lasts a very long time. If you want a similar cream deodorant which is good but not quite as great, check out Little Seed Farm’s Charcoal Deodorant.

Is this good for sensitive skin?

I’ve had horrible skin reactions from other deodorants in the past and Routine’s Superstar has given me no issues whatsoever.

Where is it made?

Routine is a Canadian company

Little Seed Farm’s Activated Charcoal Deodorant Cream

For those who are still a little more budget conscious and can’t stomach spending $30 for a deodorant. It’s about 1/3rd of the price. The scent is a bit sweeter to the nose and the texture is more of a crumbly spread versus a smooth one. We have noticed it’s a little stronger than Routine and does a better job on hotter days and for people who sweat more. It used to be offered on Amazon but Little Seed Farm pulled their products last year. This is also a fantastic deodorant and worth trying.

Native Deodorant

Native was the first natural deodorant company to really kill it out of the gate with Procter & Gamble acquiring them back in late 2017. They have a good business model and their ingredients are natural but, after using different scents from Native for over a year, their sticks just do not perform as well as the creams listed above.
