review

I have to be honest – I wasn’t expecting my favorite lip balm to end up being a drugstore find for less than $3.  When I first started looking for a new lip balm a few years ago, I read hundreds of articles ranking the best lip balms, and kept finding it odd that a Maybelline product was showing up on the same lists as Fresh, Dior, and Kiehl’s across so many blogs.

I was basically searching for a good lip balm that I could apply via a tube (since I hate using my hands), wouldn’t be overly sticky, and would keep my lips hydrated all day without needing to constantly be touched up.

The Maybelline Baby Lip Balm in Quenched (blue bottle) managed to hit all of these requests, and without a crazy price tag!  I put it on twice a day – once in the morning and once before bed, and don’t need to use any kind of lip scrub or anything else to have my lips feeling soft and hydrated, through even the coldest and driest months! The balm applies smoothly without crumbling off (like Sugar), and I don’t find the need to keep reaching for my stick to re-apply throughout the day.

While the blue bottle is the one I use for my daily lip balm, Maybelline has a few additional colors that offer a slight tint. These are not as hydrating, but offer a good option if you are looking for a tinted lip balm that looks natural, but gives your lips a pop of color.

Pro Tip:  If I wear a drying lipstick, I will apply a layer of the Maybelline lip balm underneath the lipstick, which prevents my lips from cracking as the day goes on.

Related Products & Links

Kiehl’s Lip Balm

This is a great product and very hydrating. However, I am not a fan of the jelly-like texture that stays on your lips after application.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment

This is a very hydrating lip balm, but I didn’t love when tiny clumps would come off the tube as I applied to my lips. These are also very pricey and get used up quickly

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm

While it is a similar price point, Burt’s Bees is not nearly as hydrating as Maybelline Baby Lips, and always requires me to reapply every 2-3 hours. Maybelline lasts at least twice as long
