what we like

  • Best for those looking for: A set of in-ear bluetooth headphones which feel secure, have ear-fins and do not fall out while running, working out or at the gym
  • Extremely comfortable fit which come in 3 different ear tip sizes (S, M and L)
  • Ear-fins help wedge the bud inside the ear and come in 2 sizes (M and L)
  • Choice of 7 different colors
  • Waterproof for sweat and light rain
  • Bluetooth signal is strong and holds well
  • Almost 5hr battery life per charge (case can charge the buds 4x before it needs to be charged)
  • Can use one earbud on its own to take calls and listen to music/podcasts

keep in mind

  • I’d personally prefer if the ear-fins were a little longer so you can wedge it into the top wall above the ear canal
  • But they are still secure, regardless, and feel amazing. An unbelievable buy given the price point
  • Not noise cancelling but given the shape and design they still do a solid job minimizing external noise
  • Microphone isn’t that great – It’s acceptable but call clarity is worse than the AirPods Pro (which isn’t even all that good as it is)

review

The original Airpods are fantastic when it comes to call quality and pairing. However, they are simply awful when it comes to working out. Unless your ear is perfectly ergonomically compatible with the airpods, you’ll need rubber ear hooks to keep them feeling secure. I did this for years and enjoyed it but the process of taking the ear hooks on and off after every use was cumbersome and annoying…particularly given the limited battery life. I tried the Airpods Pro and while it is certainly a nice upgrade over the original Airpods in terms of fit and battery life, they still can feel a little loose at times. At a $200 price point, you’d expect perfection and they are not quite perfect.

I did a lot of research into finding a more classical looking earbud which had built in rubber ear-fins and will stay properly wedged in my ear. There are hundreds of choices on Amazon but the MPOW M30 was by far the best. I’ve purchased many MPOW headset/telephone/earphone products over the years and I love the quality of their craftmanship. They’re designed well and they last forever. At a sub $40 price point, these earbuds are a near no brainer. You can wear them comfortably for hours at a time and the ear-fins ensure that they won’t feel loose as you run or workout. They pair with the iPhone very efficiently and MPOW designed them well so you can easily use one a time. They come in 7 different colors and make for an excellent gift for yourself or a friend.

Sizing Tips & FAQs

What is the battery life?

5 hours per charge. The case can then charge it 4 times. Meaning it can last for about 25 hours of playback without having to charge the case

How long does it take to charge the case?

About 90 minutes

Does it pair quickly with the iPhone?

It does after the initial setup

How’s the microphone?

Not great. You shouldn’t rely on these for work conference calls. We have yet to find a good set of Bluetooth headphones to come close to replicating podcast quality sound. AirPods Pro are acceptable but do not compare to plugged in Apple headphones

Boltunes

As detailed here, Boltunes are our favorite overall pick for earphones for everyday use. They’re the most versatile and complete alternative to Apple Airpods. While they definitely are secure for working out, the MPOW ones feel even better when running or doing a HIIT workout.

Jaybird Vista True

Jaybirds are essentially a higher end (and much pricier) version of these MPOWs. They have been a consistent favorite of tech vlogger, MKBHD, for awhile. Jaybird has its own dedicated app which allows you to more directly control volume and locate them if they go missing. If you are looking for a higher end gift to give to someone, this is a good choice. However, it has less battery life and you can basically buy 3-4 MPOWs for the price of one Jaybird. For my money, I’m sticking with the MPOWs all day.

Apple Airpods Pro

Apple did a great job with these in terms of technology. The noise cancelling is amazing and rubber tips ensure a slightly more secure fit than the originals. The pairing is more seamless than any other device we have tried. The mic is also slightly better than we have seen in other bluetooth in-ear earbuds (which isn’t saying a lot). For $200 though they are pricey and are not well fitting enough to be worth the anxiety of them falling out. If slightly better mic quality and slightly easier pairing is a huge premium for you, go for the AirPods Pro. But, if not, opt for the MPOW for working out.

Apple Airpods

This is the OG Airpods. While revolutionary when they first hit, their limitations are certainly exposed now. If you still have a pair and want to use them while you run/work out, buy these rubber ear hooks to pair with them and thank us later.
